‘Golden Wonder’ is a much-loved heritage variety with thick, light brown skin and pale, floury flesh. They are great for growing at home where potatoes can be harvested little and often over later summer, right through until November. This variety is ideal for roasting, chipping, baking and steaming.

We recommend growing ‘Golden Wonder’ directly into beds in rows, or in Gro-Sacks on your patio. If you plant in March, you can look forward to big harvests of earthy potatoes from August, providing you with a successional supply throughout the summer months.

We would suggest planting five potatoes in one sack if growing them on a patio. Mound the surrounding soil halfway up the stems each time your plants put on an extra 5-10cm of growth. This keeps the potatoes in the soil healthy and vigorous for rewarding harvests.

Seed Potatoes

All our seed potatoes are graded to a size 35mm x 35mm to 55mm x 55mm. This means that the smallest seed potatoes in the sample will not fall through an 35mm square. This does mean there will be various sizes within the pack. More modern varieties are more equal in size but as we want to offer the more unusual and Heritage varieties, these are more variable but we will always supply the weight stated. Any harvest will depend on individual growing conditions but generally smaller potatoes will produce smaller crops and larger potatoes will produce larger crops. But for example 1kg of seed potatoes will produce the same overall harvest whether the seed potatoes are small or large.
