Primrose ‘Scentsation Rhubarb & Custard’ cheers up pots and beds in spring with its creamy yellow flowers edged in bright raspberry pink. This well-loved perennial is perfect for shady spots and woodland gardens, growing well in light shade.
Sow indoors
June-July: Almost fill a seed tray with moist seed compost. Sow seeds thinly over the surface, and lightly cover them with a little more compost. For best results, place the tray in the main part of a refrigerator for 3 days, although this is not essential. Then place the tray in the warmth 10-15°C (50-60°F), and keep moist. Higher temperatures will prevent germination. Virtually all members of the Primula family require these cooler conditions. Keep seedlings in a light position, but shade from direct sunlight. When large enough to handle, transplant 5cm (2in) apart into trays of potting compost.
Plant out
June: Gradually accustom plants to outside conditions for 2-3 weeks before planting out from early summer onwards. Allow 15cm (6in) between plants.
