Description
- Long stems
- Ample fruit from one plant
- Uniform berries
Robust and strong-growing raspberry variety producing a wealth of fruit in mid to late summer. Regular conical fruit lets you harvest punnets full from every plant every year.
The floricane is ideal for growing in beds in an allotment. Glen Dee is a floricane type that puts up lots of fruit every year provided your plants enjoy full sun and you grow in rich soil. We recommend you incorporate half a bag of John Innes No2 compost or farmyard manure into your soil when planting and when you cut down stems early in the year.
You receive your raspberry plants as bare-root canes. These come to you in a plastic wrap and a good, strong roots. The roots settle in during winter and then lots of fruiting stems in spring. Ripe fruit will be ready up to three weeks earlier than if you plant in spring.
At planting cut stems down to 5cm (2in) from soil level. In the first year allow your raspberry plants to put up leafy growth to form strong plants. In the second year you’ll get delicious sun-ripened raspberries to pick from from strong plants.
Floricane (summer-fruiting) varieties fruit on canes produced in the previous year. After fruiting, cut out the old, fruited wood in autumn/winter and tie in the new growths to the support.
Cut down all bare root planted raspberries to 2cm (1in) above ground level when planting. This will encourage multiple canes to grow from the ground.
