Description

Runner Bean 'White Emergo' is a vigorous white-flowered variety with smooth pods, suitable for growing in pots and containers. It copes well even with poor summer weather, producing heavy crops. Pick young for the best flavour!
Sow indoors
April-May: Sow individually 5cm (2in) deep in clean pots or modules of compost. Water well.
Sow outdoors
May-June: Sow direct into the required harvest position (next to a cane support) 2in (5cm) deep, 8in (20cm) apart in double rows 8in (20cm) apart. Leave 18in (45cm) between each double row, or plant round a ‘wigwam’ of canes. Keep soil moist at all times.
Plant out
May-June: Plant out indoor-raised crops in June 8in (20cm) apart in double rows 8in (20cm) apart next to a support. Leave 18in (45cm) between each double row or plant round a ‘wigwam’ of canes once all risk of frost has passed.
Tips
Runner beans require support of canes to climb through. Pick young for best flavour.
