Pumpkin & Squash Seeds

Squashes have become much more popular in the UK over the last few years and are a simple and very satisfying crop to grow in your own garden. They can be grown directly in the soil or started off in indoor pots. Two or three seeds should be sown 2.5cm outdoors in late May or early June then covered with cloches. These should be left for as long as possible, after germination, thin the seedlings to leave the strongest ones.

Pumpkins are easy to cultivate but need to be in a sunny position with plenty of water and shelter from cold winds. Pumpkin seeds are considered a 'super-food' and are extremely rich in nutrients, when dry-roasted.
