Recycled crushed, washed and dried whelk shells make an ideal slug repellent for the garden.
A by-product from a small family seafood business based in the heart of West Wales in Cardigan Bay. The whelks are caught locally using sustainable methods utilising traditional, low-impact pots, processed for the restaurant industry and the shells are then crushed, washed three times, and dried into this award winning mulch. The large 12 litre bag contains approximately 11kg of shells, and is ideal for garden borders, beds, rockeries or as an outdoor plant pot topper.
The crushed shells can also be used for drainage or added to soil for aeration. They also work well as a mulch conserving water in the soil and as a gentle, natural slug deterrent when a generous layer (20-30mm) is added around the base of plants. A great alternative to top dressing with potting grit and are highly effective as any slug repellent. This bag will give coverage for approximately 1/2 a square metre.
