Anemone ‘St Brigid Mix’ gives a stunning display of cup-shaped double flowers in vibrant colours, held on long slender stems above ferny foliage. These beautiful bulbs look lovely in borders and containers, flowering for many weeks in late spring. They also make fantastic cut flowers.
How you will receive your bulbs:
Selected by our team of experts and sent from our nursery, you will receive your bulbs in a breathable mesh bag. This keeps the bulbs together in a pack that is nice and airy – perfect to keep them healthy while in transit.
Can’t plant straight away?
Keep your bulbs in a cool, light, and dry place and preferably hanging on a hook so that air can get to the bulbs at all angles. Ideally, you should aim to plant your bulbs within a week of receiving them, but if this is not possible, store them in a cool, dark place until you are ready to plant them.
Planting tips and hints:
Anemone coronaria bulbs (corms) can be planted in September and October for spring flowers. They can also be planted in April to flower in summer, or in June to flower in autumn.
Anemone coronaria corms are not fully hardy, and will need winter protection. In mild areas, they can be planted outdoors under cloches in autumn. In cold areas, plant them in pots in a frost-free greenhouse.
Before planting your Anemone coronaria corms, soak them in lukewarm water for 3-4 hours.
Planting in the ground: Plant Anemone coronaria corms in a light, sandy soil in full sun. Dig a hole with a trowel or a bulb planter approximately 10cm deep. Plant corms approximately 10cm apart, with the smoother side facing down and the more knobbly side upwards. Then fill the hole and compact the soil gently. Water in to moisten the soil.
Planting in containers: Place a layer of stones or gravel at the bottom of a large container in order to aid drainage. Fill the container with multipurpose compost mixed with potting grit. Plant the corms in the compost about 5cm deep and 10cm apart, with the smoother side facing down and the more knobbly side upwards. Water just enough to settle the soil, then place the container in a sheltered frost-free place over winter. Water sparingly, just enough to keep the compost from drying out completely. Once all risk of frost is past, plant them out in a sunny spot.
Aftercare: Feed container-grown anemones fortnightly during the flowering season with a liquid feed like seaweed feed. Deadhead regularly to encourage them to produce more flowers. Once the plants have died back, lift the corms and store them ready for planting again in autumn.
*Planting and flowering months below are subject to seasonal weather conditions.
