Harvest
Cider Apple 'Yarlington Mill' is a favourite with cider makers everywhere! Heavy crops of big, red-flushed apples are ready to harvest in late autumn and will drop from the tree when ripe. The flesh is sweet and slightly astringent, and makes a refreshing bittersweet cider with good flavour and strong aroma.
Apple 'Yarlington Mill' grows fast and is a heavy cropping variety once mature but may take several years to be fully productive. Discovered in the late 19th century, it was first found growing out of the wall of a mill-race in Yarlington, Somerset. Propagated by a local nurseryman, this variety started to be planted around Somerset and then spread into Devon and the West Country. 'Yarlington Mill' is self-fertile but will benefit from planting near other fruits trees, especially those in pollinator group D.
