Gala is one of the most widely grown apple tree varieties and is a popular supermarket variety. It’s a good choice for gardeners because it can be grown in both warm and cold climates so the crop is not dependant on where you live in the country or the type of garden you have.
The parents of Gala are two popular varieties, Kidd's Orange Red and Golden Delicious. Kidd's Orange Red itself is a descendant of Cox's Orange Pippin and Red Delicious and with quality texture and flavour Gala really lives up to it’s heritage.
Gala has the appearance of an English style apple with a light colour which deepens with age. It also stores well, which is another reason why it has been a global supermarket success. It has a sweet taste which often doesn’t come across with supermarket varieties but when home grown Gala really performs.
