Harvest
A columnar version of the very popular Apple ‘McIntosh’, producing top-quality apples with dark crimson skins. McIntosh apples are famous for their flavour, which is sweet and wine-like with a hint of tartness, rather like sweet grapes.
With its narrow, upright shape, this columnar apple is ideal for small spaces and patio containers. The apples store well, but for the very best flavour, eat them fresh from the tree.
Apple ‘McIntosh’ needs a pollination partner (another apple or crab apple tree) near by in order to produce fruit, ideally an early-flowering variety such as ‘Cox’s Orange Pippin’ or ‘Egremont Russet’.
How you will receive your plants:
Selected by our team of experts and sent from our nursery, you will receive your plant in a pot, ready to plant out.
Can’t plant straight away?
Place the pot in a sheltered spot outdoors and water regularly to keep the soil moist.
Planting tips and hints:
Planting in the ground:
Dig a hole slightly wider than the rootball of the plant. Place the plant in the hole so that it sits at the same level in the ground as it did in the pot. When backfilling, mix in a soil improver such as well-rotted farmyard manure. Firm the soil around the plant and water well.
Planting in containers:
Choose a pot with good drainage holes. Place stones or crocks (bits of broken pottery) at the bottom of the pot to stop the drainage holes clogging up. Use a good quality loam-based compost like John Innes Peat Free no 3.

Guide To Plant Sizes
7cm-10L Potted Shrubs
Trees, shrubs, perennials and climbers come in a range of pot sizes. Available through the year, they will be sent to you well packed for plant protection during transit. The appearance of your plant will vary depending on the season in which they are purchased. As a rule of thumb, the larger the pot, the larger the plant growth. Each increase in pot size means roughly another year’s growth for better instant impact.
Bare Root
Several of our plants come supplied as bare roots. Despite appearances, they are alive and well. They have been previously grown in the ground and lifted when dormant throughout the winter months, so that when you receive them they are strong, full of energy and ready to be planted out. This is our most economical way to buy many plant varieties including roses, strawberries, trees and bushes. Soak well prior to planting in their final position.
