Bellis 'Bellissima Mix'

Garden Ready Plants:
Your Bellis 'Bellissima Mix' plants arrive well established and ready to plant straight into their final position in pots, window boxes, beds or borders.

If you can't plant them immediately, keep them in a bright, sheltered position and make sure they don't dry out. Water before planting if the rootballs feel dry.

Choose a position in full sun or partial shade with fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Plant at the same depth they were growing in their tray, gently firm the soil or compost around the roots and water thoroughly after planting.

Space plants around 15–20cm apart to allow them to fill out while creating a full, colourful display.

Choose a container with good drainage holes and fill with good-quality multipurpose compost. Gently firm the compost rather than packing it down tightly, and leave around 2–3cm below the rim to make watering easier.

Bellis 'Bellissima Mix' has a neat, compact habit and looks particularly effective planted in groups. Space plants around 15–20cm apart, giving each one enough room to develop while still creating a full display.

In larger containers and window boxes, repeat the same spacing or combine Bellis with other autumn and spring bedding. Its low-growing habit makes it especially useful around the front or edges of mixed containers.

Water thoroughly after planting and keep the compost moist but not waterlogged.

Top tip:
Plant several Bellis together to make the most of those distinctive pompom flowers. Repeating the same rounded flower shape creates a much stronger display than scattering individual plants around a large pot.

Those rounded pompom flowers make Bellis 'Bellissima Mix' particularly useful for adding a different shape and texture to autumn and spring displays.

Combine with pansies, violas or primroses for a colourful low-growing display, or add taller wallflowers behind them to introduce extra height and fragrance.

Spring-flowering bulbs such as dwarf daffodils, crocuses and tulips can also be planted beneath or between your Bellis in autumn. As the bulbs emerge in spring, they'll rise above the compact plants to create another layer of flowers.

Top tip:
Use Bellis towards the front of mixed pots and borders, where their low-growing habit keeps the pompom flowers in clear view without hiding taller plants behind them.

Keep your Bellis watered during dry spells, particularly plants growing in pots and window boxes, but avoid leaving the compost waterlogged.

As flowers fade, pinch or snip off the spent flower stem close to the base of the plant rather than removing only the flower head. This keeps the neat rosette of foliage tidy and encourages the plant to put its energy into producing more flowers.

Remove yellowing or damaged leaves as you spot them, especially around the base of the plant where old foliage can collect.

Container-grown plants can be given a liquid feed while actively growing. There's little need to feed during very cold weather when growth has slowed; start again as growth picks up towards spring.

Top tip:
Because Bellis grows as a low rosette, aim water at the compost around the plant rather than repeatedly soaking the flowers and foliage.
