Flowering
  • Compact buddleja with rich golden-yellow flower clusters
  • Highly attractive to butterflies and other pollinators
  • Long flowering period from summer into autumn
  • Ideal for borders, wildlife gardens and smaller spaces

Buddleja ‘Sungold’ is a compact and eye-catching butterfly bush that brings warm colour and wildlife interest to the garden. Throughout summer and into autumn, it produces abundant rounded flower clusters in deep golden-yellow shades that stand out beautifully against fresh green foliage. These nectar-rich blooms are a magnet for butterflies, bees and other pollinators, making this variety an excellent choice for wildlife-friendly planting.

With a naturally rounded and manageable habit, ‘Sungold’ is well suited to borders and mixed planting schemes, particularly in smaller gardens where space is limited. It thrives in a sunny position with free-draining soil and responds well to annual pruning, which helps maintain a neat shape and encourages strong flowering.

Reliable, low maintenance and full of seasonal colour, Buddleja ‘Sungold’ adds structure, vibrancy and pollinator appeal to the garden year after year.

Guide To Plant Sizes

Guide to Shrub Plant Sizes

Our shrubs are supplied in sizes ranging from 9cm pots up to 15L. All plants are mature enough to be planted directly into their final position in the garden.

How you will receive your plants
Selected by our team of experts and dispatched from our nursery, shrubs arrive planted in pots. If ordered during autumn or winter, plants may appear yellow or have few or no leaves. This is completely natural and the plant remains healthy and ready to grow, simply reflecting the season.

Can’t plant straight away?
Place the plant in a sheltered location and water regularly to keep the compost moist until planting.

Planting instructions
Unpack your plant on arrival and, if weather conditions allow, place it outside and water well. When planting, choose a position suited to the plant’s requirements and allow enough space to avoid overcrowding.

Dig a hole approximately twice as deep and three times as wide as the rootball. If your soil is heavy, incorporate a soil improver before backfilling. Adding plant feed to the planting hole is also recommended to support strong establishment and growth.

Place the plant so it sits at the same level in the soil as it was in its pot. Firm the soil gently around the roots and water thoroughly.

Feeding and aftercare
Water regularly during the establishment period and feed as required to encourage healthy growth. Trim lightly in summer if needed to maintain shape. Mulching in autumn or spring will help retain moisture and protect the roots.

Planting and flowering months
Planting and flowering times vary depending on seasonal weather conditions. Shrubs can be planted year round, but take extra care during cold winter periods to protect from frost, and during hot summer weather to ensure adequate watering.
