Professional Grower Plugs:
Pot your plugs on as soon as possible after arrival, ideally within 3 days. If you can't pot them on straight away, keep them moist in a bright, sheltered position.

Before potting, check that the compost is moist. If the plugs feel dry, stand the tray in shallow water for a short time to allow them to take up moisture from below.

Fill 9cm pots with good-quality multipurpose or potting compost. Make a planting hole with a pencil or narrow dibber, carefully ease each plug from its tray and plant at the same depth it was growing in the tray. Gently firm the compost around the plug to ensure good contact with the roots, but avoid pressing it down too firmly as this can reduce drainage and the air spaces roots need. Water thoroughly using a watering can fitted with a fine rose.

Grow the plants on in a bright, sheltered position such as a greenhouse or cold frame, keeping the compost moist but not waterlogged. Allow around 3–4 weeks for the plants to establish, although they may take longer in cooler conditions. Once they're putting on healthy new growth and have developed a good root system, they're ready to be hardened off.

Gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7–10 days, initially placing them outside in a sheltered position during the day and bringing them back under cover at night. Once hardened off, plant into their final position.

Plug Plants:
Pot plug plants into individual pots of good-quality multipurpose or potting compost and grow them on in a bright, sheltered position until they have developed a strong root system and are ready to plant out.

Keep the compost moist but not waterlogged. Before planting outside, gradually acclimatise plants to outdoor conditions, particularly if they have been grown under cover.

Garden Ready Plants:
Garden Ready Plants can be planted straight into their final position. If you can't plant them immediately, keep them in a bright, sheltered spot and make sure they don't dry out.

Plant in well-drained soil in a sunny position. Water plants before planting if the rootballs feel dry, position them at the same depth they were growing in their tray or pot, gently firm the soil around the roots and water thoroughly.

Erigeron 'Stallone' thrives in a sunny position with well-drained soil and is particularly useful anywhere its low, spreading growth can soften hard edges and spread naturally.

Walls and raised beds:
Plant near the edge and allow the stems to tumble naturally over the sides, creating a relaxed cascade of daisy flowers for months.

Paths and paving:
Its ability to soften cracks and edges makes Mexican Fleabane particularly effective around steps, paving and gravel, provided plants have enough soil for their roots to establish.

Borders and gravel gardens:
Use towards the front of sunny borders or amongst other drought-tolerant plants, where its loose growth can weave naturally through neighbouring plants.

Pots and containers:
Position towards the edge of containers and raised planters so the flowering stems have room to spill naturally over the sides.

Top tip:
Choose a position where 'Stallone' has room to spread. It looks at its best when allowed to tumble and weave naturally rather than being kept too tightly contained.

The clouds of white and pink daisies produced by 'Stallone' mix easily with other sun-loving perennials and are particularly effective in informal, cottage-style and gravel planting.

Try it alongside lavender, nepeta or hardy geraniums for a relaxed combination with a long season of interest. Low-growing sedums and other drought-tolerant perennials also make natural partners in sunny, free-draining positions.

In walls and rockeries, combine it with aubrieta or creeping phlox for different layers of spreading flowers, while spring bulbs can provide colour before the erigeron's main flowering season gets underway.

Top tip:
Use 'Stallone' to soften the gaps between more structured plants. Its fine stems and little daisies will naturally weave around its neighbours, helping a new planting feel established and relaxed.

Water regularly while newly planted erigeron establishes, particularly during dry weather. Once established, plants are drought tolerant, although those growing in containers will need watering more regularly.

Plants can be lightly trimmed after a main flush of flowers if they begin to look untidy. This helps maintain a neat shape and can encourage fresh growth and further flowering.

Erigeron generally needs little feeding when grown in the ground. Plants growing in containers can be given an occasional liquid feed during active growth and flowering.

In colder areas, growth may die back during winter before returning from the base in spring. Avoid leaving plants sitting in cold, wet soil, as good drainage is particularly important over winter.

Top tip:
Don't worry about keeping every stem perfectly tidy. Part of Mexican Fleabane's charm is the way its flowering stems wander naturally over walls, paths and neighbouring plants.
