Flowering
This fiery mix of red hot pokers with their bold spires of bright yellow, orange and red flowers adds sizzle to your summer planting. Flowering all summer, Kniphofia ‘Grandiflora Mix’ looks fantastic combined with softer flowering perennials or grasses, and makes good cut flowers.
Sow indoors
Sow on the surface of pre-watered seed compost, in pots or trays, lightly pressing into the surface. Place in a propagator or bag at around 20°C (68F) in shade and allow 2-4 weeks for germination. Remove lid or bag and keep in cooler, brighter conditions after germination.
Grow on
Transplant into small pots (8cm / 3in) when seedlings are large enough to handle. Grow on at 12-15C (55-60F). Autumn sowings can be overwintered in a greenhouse prior to planting out after the danger of frost has passed.
Plant out
Plant out in well drained soil in full sun, 60cm (24in) apart.
Aftercare
Cut down old stems after flowering.
How to grow
Sow seeds on to the surface of pre-watered seed compost, but don't cover them. Keep warm, around 20°C and keep moist, but not wet. Allow 1-2 weeks for germination.
