How Do I Sow My Seeds?

Sowing Indoors Fill a seed tray with compost, levelling the surface and gently firming it with the base of another tray. Water thoroughly and then scatter the seeds thinly over the surface and cover with 1cm of compost. Place the tray in a propagator at 15-20°C, or cover with cling film and leave in a warm room. Keep the compost moist until seedlings appear.


Sowing Outdoors Sow seeds directly into pre-watered soil in their final flowering position at a depth of 1.5cm. Keep the soil consistently moist until seedlings emerge, and water regularly during dry spells. Once established, thin seedlings to approximately 30cm apart to give them plenty of space to grow and flower.

Where Should I Grow Them?

Once seedlings appear, remove any cling film and place them in a bright position, avoiding direct sunlight. When the seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them 5cm apart into trays of potting compost or individually into small pots.


Before planting outdoors, gradually acclimatise your plants to outdoor conditions over a period of 2-3 weeks. Once the risk of frost has passed, plant them in their final growing position, spacing them 30cm apart to allow plenty of room for healthy growth.


Choose a sunny spot in pots, containers, hanging baskets, window boxes, beds or borders, where they can produce an abundance of colourful blooms. Water well after planting and continue to keep plants watered until they are fully established.
