Flowering
Flowering from late spring well into autumn, Nemesia Rhubarb and Custard is a fantastic choice for pots and hanging baskets, with a profusion of fragrant purple and yellow flowers on compact bushy plants. It’s also ideal for filling gaps towards the front of a border, and looks great lining the edge of a bed.
How you will receive your plants:
Selected by our team of experts and sent from our nursery, you will receive your super plugs in plug trays in a box. These are designed to keep your plants secure and to prevent damage in transit. Super plugs need to be potted on before planting out.
Can’t plant straight away?
If you aren't able to plant your seedlings out straight away then ensure they stay moist. You can place your plugs on a saucer or tray of shallow water so they are able to stay hydrated. Aim to have your plugs potted on within 3 days.
Potting seedling plugs on: On arrival place your plug trays in shallow water to allow them to soak ensuring the rootballs are moist. Use the end of a pencil or a narrow dibber to gently tease your plugs out of their trays. Choose potting on pots approximately 3 inches in diameter to plant your plugs on. Fill the pots with quality potting on compost and tap down until level. Use your pencil to make a hole in the top of the compost and place your plug plant in, gently pushing around the base of the plant. Repeat this process for all of your plugs and then place them in a tray and thoroughly water with a watering can using a fine rose to prevent the compost from being displaced. Grow your plants in a cold-frame, large sunny windowsill, or greenhouse. Water every 2-3 days and more frequently if sunny to prevent drying out.
Hardening off: Once your potted on plants reach a good size and are ready to plant out in their final location, the first step is to harden them off before moving them outdoors permanently. This involves simply placing them outdoors during the day and back undercover at night to allow them to get accustomed to the lower temperatures. Once they have been hardened off for a week your plants should be ready to plant out in their final location.
Feeding and aftercare: Water regularly and trim faded flowers. Feed container-grown plants fortnightly with a liquid high potash feed.

How to grow
Planting in Containers
Plant approximately 6-10 plants per 30cm container. Sprinkle a layer of stone or gravel at the bottom of the container to aid drainage. Use a high-quality young plant or general-purpose compost, spacing plants evenly to allow room for growth. Mix in a slow-release granular fertilizer before placing the plants to provide nutrients. Water thoroughly after planting and continue to water every 1-3 days depending on rainfall, ensuring the container doesn’t dry out.
Planting in the Ground
Dig a hole approximately twice as deep and three times as wide as the plant. If your soil is heavy, mix in general-purpose compost, horticultural sand, and potting grit to improve drainage. Gently compact the soil around the plant and water thoroughly.
Feeding and Aftercare
Use a liquid feed high in potash to nourish the roots directly. Keep plants well-watered during dry summer months, which may require daily watering depending on rainfall.

Guide To Plant Sizes
Seedlings
Supplied in trays of 20’s, seedlings offer great value for money and purchasing at this stage of growth helps when time or space is at a premium. They’ve been started off for you in specialist conditions where heat and humidity controls are needed for optimum plant growth and health. Delivered at the right time of year for growing success, when your plants arrive, simply pot them on and continue growing indoors, before hardening off and planting out in summer.
Super Plugs
Super plugs are larger than seedlings, they have more developed roots so they are stronger and establish faster. Available in select bedding collections, they are cutting raised, which means they come from cuttings and not seeds. This growing process can help create superior plants with many positive attributes including longer flowering times and uniformity. On arrival, pot on, growing indoors, before hardening off and planting out in summer.
Garden Ready Bedding
Supplied in trays of 12 and the largest of our plugs, garden ready bedding plants are seed raised and will be sent to you at the perfect time for planting. They have been grown on to a size where they are ready to plant straight out. Bursting into life, if they have not yet begun to flower, it will only be a short time before they do.
