Harvest

This Pea and Bean Duo Pack contains the best peas and beans for autumn sowing. The advantages of autumn sowing is that your plants begin to grow earlier, overwintering and bursting into growth again in spring, meaning that you get an earlier crop, giving you the option to sow a second crop for a prolonged harvest. This Pea and Bean Duo Pack includes Broad Bean 'Aquadulce Claudia' and Pea 'Douce Provence'.

Broad Bean 'Aquadulce Claudia' is best sown in October or November to allow them to overwinter into hardy young plants, strong enough to withstand the winter frosts. Then, when the warmer spring weather arrives, they quickly put on growth and soon produce delicious broad beans. It establishes itself quickly, is very hardy and produces very early crops. 'Aquadulce Claudia' produces very long glossy pods up to 9in, with tender light coloured beans. An RHS AGM variety.

Pea 'Douce Provence' is a round-seeded pea (as opposed to its wrinkled-seeded cousins) which means you can sow it from late September to early November. This will ensure the young plants establish themselves before the winter sets in. Once spring arrives they'll continue to develop, well ahead of your spring sown peas. 'Douce Provence' is a very sweet and succulent variety and one of the most versatile.

Pea and Bean Duo Seed Pack consists of:

  • 1 Full-Size Packet of 'Aquadulce Claudia' Broad Bean Seeds
  • 1 Full-Size Packet of 'Douce de Provence' Pea Seeds

*Saving compared to buying individually.

How To Grow

Peas are one of the easiest and most rewarding crops to grow, offering sweet, fresh harvests straight from the pod. From mangetout and sugarsnaps to traditional shelling peas, sowing from seed gives you the best choice of varieties and a season-long supply.

Outdoor Sowing
Sow directly into well-drained soil from early spring, placing seeds 5cm deep and spacing 7–8cm apart. Keep rows 60cm apart and provide support such as pea sticks, netting or trellis for climbing varieties. Water regularly, especially during flowering, to support healthy pod formation.

Feeding
Start feeding when flowers appear. Apply a high-potash liquid feed every two weeks until the end of harvest, or use a granular fertiliser monthly, watered in well at the base of plants. This boosts flower and pod development for heavier crops.

Harvesting
Pick peas from the bottom upwards, ideally in the morning when sugar levels are at their highest. Regular picking encourages plants to keep producing.

Companion Planting
Peas enrich soil with nitrogen and pair well with carrots, radishes, lettuce, spinach, beans, cucumbers and brassicas. Marigolds and nasturtiums also make excellent companions, helping deter pests naturally.
