Sowing Outdoors
Rake soil to provide a firm, even surface. Sow seeds thinly in pre-watered soil, lightly covering them with a little more soil. Keep moist until seedlings appear and as required in dry spells. Late summer and autumn sown seedlings may benefit from cloche or fleece protection when hard frosts threaten.
Aftercare
When large enough to handle, thin seedlings to allow their development and to prevent overcrowding.
Advice
Summer/autumn sowings will start to bloom earlier the following year than seeds sown in spring. Always sow Californian Poppies direct as they don’t transplant well.
How to grow
Sow seeds on to the surface of pre-watered seed compost, but don't cover them. Keep warm, around 20°C and keep moist, but not wet. Allow 1-2 weeks for germination.
