The Raspberry Joan J is an easy fruit to grow and yields delicious rewards of beautiful berries. This is a fantastic variety of Raspberry and is classed as a primocane which is an autumn-fruiting type of raspberry and will fruit in their first full year.
It has a compact growing habit and this makes it ideal for all garden types as space is not an issue. As long as you have space for a 10ltr pot you can have your own huge, delicious, superb flavoured raspberries from plant to plate.
When grown in the garden, cropping is from mid August through to mid September and as it is a Primocane variety, you will be picking your first crop in its first year.
Primocane (autumn-fruiting) varieties fruit on canes produced in the current year. After cropping, these should be cut down to ground level to promote the growth of new canes.
It is a thornless variety with a classic raspberry flavour and you will get more berries for your money; up to 1.5kg of sweet, scarlet raspberries from June until September. Joan J will need to be planted in full sunshine, in soil that is fertile and moist but well-drained.
