Some varieties have an extra helping hand too, such as pre-spaced seed tape, compact plants, disease resistance or other useful growing traits. So you can spend less time worrying about getting everything right and more time enjoying what you've grown.

Fill a module tray with seed compost, gently levelling and firming the surface with the base of another tray. Water thoroughly using a fine rose attachment before sowing.

Sow one seed into each module and lightly cover with vermiculite. Place the tray in a propagator at 18-20°C, or cover it with cling film and keep it in a warm room.

Keep the compost consistently moist throughout the germination period, taking care not to let it dry out. Once seedlings emerge, remove any covering and continue growing them in a bright, warm position.

Once seedlings appear, remove any cling film and place them in a bright position, protected from strong direct sunlight. When plants have developed four leaves, transplant them into 8cm pots filled with potting compost and continue growing them at a minimum temperature of 15°C.

Gradually acclimatise plants to outdoor conditions over a period of 2-3 weeks before moving them outside, ensuring temperatures remain above 10°C. Plant into large pots, grow bags or garden borders, spacing plants 45cm apartin a greenhouse or a warm, sunny, sheltered outdoor position.

As Cocktail Crush is an indeterminate (cordon) tomato variety, plants will need support from canes, strings or wires as they grow. Remove side shoots regularly to help encourage strong, healthy growth and maximise fruit production.

Tomatoes are thirsty and hungry plants, so water regularly throughout the growing season to keep them healthy and productive. Feed plants regularly with a suitable tomato fertiliser once flowering and fruiting begin to encourage a plentiful harvest.

If growing in a greenhouse, ensure it is well ventilated on warm days to help maintain good air circulation and healthy plants.

As Cocktail Crush grows, pinch out the growing tip once it reaches the top of its support. Allow a maximum of six fruiting trusses per plant to help concentrate energy into producing larger, better-quality tomatoes. Regularly remove any side shoots to keep plants tidy and productive.

You can look forward to harvesting Cocktail Crush tomatoes from July to October.

Pick the fruits once they have developed a rich red colour and feel firm but ripe. Their sweet, tangy flavour makes them ideal for salads, sandwiches and snacking straight from the plant.

Harvest tomatoes regularly as they ripen to encourage continued cropping throughout the season and to enjoy the fruits at their freshest and most flavourful.
