Harvest

Harvest
  • Hugely productive- masses of trusses
  • No pinching-out required
  • Great salad or cooking tomato

This vigorous variety is so prolific; producing handfuls of tasty fruit that are so easy to harvest through mid- to late summer.

Montello’s versatility knows no bounds- both in the garden and in the kitchen! Grow in containers, baskets or grow-bags indoors or out and this neat bush variety gets to 90cm in length producing masses of trusses; you don’t even need to pinch out side-shoots.

Your crop of tomatoes are delicious enough to eat straight from the plant or added to salads; they also reduce well when added to the pan, making excellent rich Bolognese sauces and soups.

How To Grow

Tomatoes are one of the most popular and rewarding crops to grow, producing sweet, juicy fruits perfect for salads, sauces, and cooking. With a little warmth and light, you can raise healthy plants from seed and enjoy harvests throughout summer and autumn.

Indoor Sowing
Sow seeds indoors from January to April. Use trays or small pots filled with peat-free seed compost, sowing thinly and covering with 1cm of compost or vermiculite. Water gently to settle, then cover with a clear lid or clingfilm to maintain humidity. Place trays in a warm, bright spot such as a heated greenhouse or sunny windowsill.

After Germination
Once seedlings appear, remove the cover and keep the compost moist but not waterlogged. If growing on a windowsill, rotate trays regularly to stop seedlings leaning towards the light. When seedlings are large enough to handle, prick out into individual pots to continue growing on.

Planting Out
Transplant into larger pots, growbags, or directly into the soil once all risk of frost has passed. Provide canes or strings for cordon varieties and keep plants in a warm, sheltered spot for the best yields.
