Flowering
This semi-trailing viola looks gorgeous tumbling from pots and hanging baskets, with mounds of foliage smothered in bright bicolour purple and yellow flowers for months. Easy to grow and very cold-hardy, it’s perfect for small gardens, patios and balconies.
Sow indoors
Almost fill a seed tray with moist seed compost. Sow seeds thinly over the surface, and lightly cover them with a little more compost. Place in the warmth, 15-20°C and keep moist. Higher temperatures may inhibit germination.
Grow on
Keep seedlings in a light position, but shade from direct sunlight. When large enough to handle, transplant 5cm apart into trays of potting compost.
Harden off/plant out
Gradually accustom plants to outside conditions for 2-3 weeks before planting out. Allow 20cm between plants.
Advice
The petals add colour to salads.
How to grow
Sow seeds on to the surface of pre-watered seed compost, but don't cover them. Keep warm, around 20°C and keep moist, but not wet. Allow 1-2 weeks for germination.
