Flowering
These golden-yellow daisy-like flowers were once used to make beautiful dyes, and they look just as good in the border, growing easily even in poor soils. Anthemis tinctoria is a very hardy and easy-to-grow perennial that looks lovely planted in drifts through a border. It flowers for months in summer, attracting pollinators to the garden, and the ferny evergreen leaves have a light chamomile scent.
Sowing outdoors
Sow thinly, directly into well-drained soil that has is weed-free and broken down into a fine tilth. Rake over gently to cover to a depth of around 3mm. For best results sow in well-drained soil in full sun.
Thinning
Thin young seedlings to the required spacing when large enough to handle. Drought-tolerant.
Aftercare
Cut back hard after flowering. May be used for cut flowers.
How to grow
Sow seeds on to the surface of pre-watered seed compost, but don't cover them. Keep warm, around 20°C and keep moist, but not wet. Allow 1-2 weeks for germination.
