Aster ‘Rudolph Goethe’ blooms from mid-summer to early autumn, producing stunning large violet-blue daisy-like flowers on sturdy stems. Forming neat, upright clumps, this reliable perennial is a great way to fill borders with late summer colour. It has excellent mildew resistance, and the long-lasting flowers are ideal for cutting.

Sow indoors

Sow on the surface of pre-watered seed compost, in pots or trays, lightly pressing into the surface. Place in a propagator or bag at around 20°C (68F) in shade and allow 2 weeks for germination. Remove lid or bag and keep in cooler, brighter conditions after germination.

Grow on

Transplant when seedlings are large enough to handle. Grow on in a sheltered spot outdoors, such as a cold frame or unheated greenhouse.

Plant out

Plant out in full sun in well-drained soil and water in well.

Aftercare

Cut back after flowering, once the foliage is dying back. Will benefit from division of established clumps every 2-3 years.
