Designed for the keen gardener looking to grow a range of seed varieties. The size of the electric heated base lends itself to use in a greenhouse or on a spare room table top.
The heated base includes a 50 Watt carbon fibre element for evenly distributing heat and comes with a built-in thermostat to maintain a compost temperature of 19° Centigrade. Additionally, the unit has neon light indicators for both 'Heat On' and 'Power On' functions.
Is the unit faulty if the base tray no longer heats up and the green light doesn't come on?
No, the unit probably isn't faulty, this model is thermostatically controlled. This means that heat is only produced when the base temperature falls below 20 degrees Centigrade.
The green 'HEAT ON' light comes on only when heat is actually being generated. Once the unit has been in operation for a period of hours, the green light will only illuminate briefly, as only short bursts of power are required to regain the target temperature.
If the base temperature is above 20 degrees Centigrade, the green 'HEAT ON' light will not illuminate at all. There is a simple way to 'trick' the unit by placing something very cold (like a bag of frozen vegetables) on top of green indicator light area.
Within 15 minutes at most, the green 'HEAT ON' light should illuminate to show the unit is working correctly.
