Cauliflower ‘Clapton’ F1 is a top-performing variety, prized for its large, dense curds and superb disease resistance. With natural protection against clubroot, it ensures reliable crops where other varieties may fail, making it a firm favourite among UK growers.
Its upright, compact habit allows plants to be spaced closer together, making the most of small plots, raised beds, or allotments. Harvest from mid-summer through autumn and enjoy crisp, flavoursome cauliflowers fresh from the garden with dependable results every season.
How To Grow
Cauliflowers are a rewarding vegetable to grow, producing versatile heads that are delicious roasted, steamed, or added to soups. They thrive in nutrient-rich, well-drained soil with consistent moisture and firm ground to stop plants rocking in the wind, which can cause bolting and poor head formation. Start seeds indoors for strong early growth, then transplant into sunny spots with space for heads to develop. Protect young plants from slugs, caterpillars, and other pests.
Indoor Sowing Fill modular seed trays with fine seed compost and moisten before sowing. Place one seed per module to give space for roots to develop. Keep compost evenly moist using a gentle mist. Position trays in a warm, bright spot out of direct sunlight. Once seedlings develop true leaves or roots fill the modules, harden off before planting out.
Planting Out Harden seedlings over 7–14 days by gradually exposing them to outdoor conditions. Transplant into pots or directly into beds once acclimatised.
Outdoor Sowing Choose naturally disease-resistant varieties to avoid club root. Use brassica collars to deter root fly and netting to protect from insects and birds. Plant seedlings 1cm deep, spacing 45cm between plants and 45cm between rows.
