These plants will yield an early harvest in your garden, up to 8 weeks earlier than spring-raised crops. Your first harvest will be bountiful, and many will be ready before pesky brassica pests appear.

Get your planting bed ready by adding pre-planting fertiliser, raking the surface level, and walking over it to firm the soil - this will benefit your Brassicas, as they prefer firm soil. Give the surface another light raking as needed."

Using either a dibber or trowel, create a hole deep enough to cover the root ball and the neck of the plant. Then, carefully water the hole before placing the plant inside and gently firming the soil around it.

Place in a sheltered spot and water regularly to keep the compost moist

Planting tips and hints:

Dig a hole approximately twice as deep and 3 times as wide as the plant’s rootball. If your soil is heavy mix in a soil improver before backfilling. Place the plant in the hole so that it sits at the same level in the ground as it did in the pot. Firm the soil around the plant and water thoroughly. When planting in containers, use a good multi-purpose compost.
