  • Beautiful winter groundcover under shrubs and trees
  • Bright pink, purple or white flowers in autumn
  • Gorgeous silver-marbled foliage in winter
  • Fully established spread per plant: 15cm
  • Planting depth: 3cm

Cyclamen hederifolium makes gorgeous winter groundcover under shrubs and trees with its elegant purple, pink or white flowers studding the ground like small jewels in autumn. Silver-marbled ivy-shaped leaves appear with or after the flowers and last until spring. Cyclamen hederifolium grows happily in dappled shade under deciduous shrubs and trees, sheltered from hot summer sunshine. It self-seeds easily, gradually spreading to form a low carpet of autumn colour.

How you will receive your bulbs:

Selected by our team of experts and sent from our nursery, you will receive spring-flowering bulbs in the autumn in a breathable mesh bag. This is to keep the bulbs together in a pack that is nice and airy – perfect to keep the bulbs healthy while in transit.

Can’t plant straight away?

Keep your bulbs in a cool, light, and dry place and preferably hanging on a hook so that air can get to the bulbs at all angles. Ideally, you should aim to plant your bulbs within a week of receiving them, but if this is not possible, store them in a cool, dark place until you are ready to plant them.

Planting tips and hints:

Planting in the ground: You can plant your cyclamen tubers any time in September and October. Dig a hole with a trowel approximately 3cm deep. Plant the tubers approximately 5-8cm apart, or dig a large shallow hole and place several tubers in the hole. Plant them with the flattest side downwards and the concave side facing upwards, then fill the hole and compact the soil gently. Water in to moisten the soil.

Planting in containers: Place a layer of stones or gravel at the bottom of a large container in order to aid drainage. Fill the container with a mixture of horticultural grit and loam-based compost like John Innes no 2 to approximately 6-7cm below the rim. Place tubers approximately 5-8cm apart and fill the container to about 3cm from the top of the rim, firming it down. Water to settle the compost.

Feeding and aftercare: Water container-grown cyclamens during long dry periods.
