This Kent & Stowe set is practical and an attractive planting tool and gardening set, just the job for transplanting young plants and seedlings as well as planting ornamental and edible bulb-like sets such as onions and garlic. This set also includes secateurs for pruning.
Every stainless steel tool you receive comprises a traditional ash wood handle, comfortable to hold while carrying out essential planting tasks and a stainless steel head for extra durability. They are rust-resistant with a smooth surface which stops the soil from sticking.
Each of these stainless steel tools has a leather strap hook to hang tools away in storage keeping them clean and durable.
You receive one of each:
Kent & Stowe Stainless Steel Widger
A trowel and dibber hybrid that makes a great pricking-out tool for transplanting seedlings and makes planting holes for edible and flowering bulbs like daffodils. Great for moving on rooted cuttings too.
Kent & Stowe Stainless Steel Hand Potting Scoop
Use this Potting Scoop for transferring soil and compost to use on the workbench in your potting shed. With a deep scoop cavity for easier and quicker potting tasks.
Kent & Stowe Traditional Secateurs
Use these bypass secateurs to prune live stems. These tools are constructed with drop forged carbon steel for strength and durability. Perfect for deadheading and cutting live green wood.
Caring For Your Tools
Cleaning and Disinfecting
After each use, remove dirt, sap, and debris from the blades with a stiff brush or old toothbrush to prevent residue buildup and corrosion. To avoid spreading plant diseases, disinfect blades after each use, especially when pruning diseased plants, using rubbing alcohol or a diluted bleach solution.
Sharpening and Lubrication
Keep blades sharp for clean cuts by sharpening them regularly with a sharpening stone, file, or pruning tool sharpener. Lubricate the moving parts periodically by applying a few drops of oil to the pivot points, then open and close the blades to ensure smooth operation.
Inspection and Maintenance
Regularly check for signs of damage such as bent or nicked blades, loose screws, or worn-out parts. Replace any damaged components to maintain functionality and safety.
Storage and Protection
Store cutting tools in a clean, dry place, such as a toolbox or hanging rack, to prevent damage and loss. Avoid damp or humid environments to prevent rust. Use blade covers or sheaths when not in use to protect the blades from dirt, moisture, and accidental damage.
Proper Usage
Proper Storage
To keep your tools performing at their best, always store them in a dry environment after use. Even in dry weather, moisture from wet grass and dew can cause damage if tools are left outside.
Cleaning and Drying Remove soil and debris after each use by washing off dirt. Never store tools while wet—allow them to dry completely to prevent rust and handle rot. Maintaining Wooden Handles Apply a light coat of boiled linseed oil to wooden handles to prevent drying and cracking. If very dirty, clean with a stiff brush and a damp cloth, avoiding excessive water to prevent swelling and grain lifting. Chemical Exposure Thoroughly clean any tools used for applying fertilisers or chemicals, as these substances can quickly corrode metal surfaces.
