Harvest
Royal is a compact Medlar variety, this makes it very useful if your garden space is limited. The wood, leaves and blossoms of this wonderful tree have strong ornamental value.
The fruit of ‘Royal' are a bit smaller than some varieties but they have a good flavour, so much so that you can seriously consider eating them freshly picked off the tree in late October rather than having to ‘blet' them for a few weeks.
‘Bletting' is the name given to the process of storing Medlar fruits to soften before they develop their true, truffle-like flavour. The fruits will be stored for 3-4 and this makes the flesh become very soft similar to that of a ripe fig or a date.
Medlars are mainly considered to be culinary fruits for which they are used for jams and chutneys.
The tree will make a good lawn feature, carrying huge glossy leaves and attractive large, pure white flowers on a flat topped, spreading semi-weeping habit.
Rootstock: Quince 'A'
Flowering Group: Self-Fertile
Years until fruiting from planting: 2-4
Age of tree at despatch: 2
Height at full growth: 4m/13ft
Most of our trees are delivered as bare rooted specimens with approximate height of: 3.5ft - 5ft / 105cm - 140cm depending on the variety.
In order to ensure a good pollination pick fruit trees from within the same or from adjacent flowering groups.
We may prune your tree before it arrives to your door. We do this to encourage your tree to branch freely which makes them better looking and more productive.

Guide To Plant Sizes
7cm-10L Potted Shrubs
Trees, shrubs, perennials and climbers come in a range of pot sizes. Available through the year, they will be sent to you well packed for plant protection during transit. The appearance of your plant will vary depending on the season in which they are purchased. As a rule of thumb, the larger the pot, the larger the plant growth. Each increase in pot size means roughly another year’s growth for better instant impact.
Bare Root
Several of our plants come supplied as bare roots. Despite appearances, they are alive and well. They have been previously grown in the ground and lifted when dormant throughout the winter months, so that when you receive them they are strong, full of energy and ready to be planted out. This is our most economical way to buy many plant varieties including roses, strawberries, trees and bushes. Soak well prior to planting in their final position.
