Unwins Ornamental Grass Melinis Karoo Queen Seeds produce beautifully fluffy, pink to deep red plumes.
This upright grass provides added interest in late summer and early autumn. It's ideal in borders and can provide them with texture, colour and contrast. It's also a great choice for containers.
Sowing OutdoorsSow in trays of pre-watered seed compost and cover lightly. Keep in a cold frame or unheated greenhouse, do not allow to dry out and allow 2-3 weeks for germination.
Growing OnWhen large enough to handle, transplant into 12cm pots using a well draining compost, ideally with added grit. Slowly acclimatise to outdoor conditions before planting out after frosts.
Planting OutChoose a sunny spot in any well-drained soil. Plant approximately 40cm apart. Alternatively, plant in a large container using good quality compost, ensuring free drainage.
AftercareFeed annually in spring. Not fully hardy, so protect from frost, moving containers into a sheltered spot. Can also be grown as an annual.
