A great value and simple way to grow bumper crops of salad or new potatoes on the patio or if space is limited. Each reusable taupe coloured polythene bag holds 20L-25L of compost and has both side and bottom drainage holes to allow for the escape of excess water.

Simply open up the grow bag, fill up to one quarter of the bags depth with a mix of Marshalls vegetable compost and potato fertiliser and place in 2-3 seed potatoes per bag of a new or salad variety ensuring they are then fully covered with additional compost up to half the grow bags height. As the potatoes foliage starts to grow keep covering up with compost until the bag is full up to 5cm from the top to allow for watering. Make sure that the bags are kept well-watered during the growing season and when either the days to harvest for the variety have passed, the foliage starts to yellow and die back, or the flowers finish will signal that the potatoes are ready to harvest. You will notice that by restricting the amount of available room the potatoes have to grow in not only does this save money on compost, allow you to grow a wide number of varieties but the smaller tasty tubers make a bumper harvest!

These economical bags are ideal for growing a range of salads crops, tomatoes, or patio vegetables in limited space and if looked after will last a couple of seasons before they can be recycled at polythene bag collection sites. They can be wiped down and easily stored in a cupboard or draw over winter.

If you are new to potato growing or don’t have the space for larger bags or pots these make an easy and cost effective alternative.
