'Polar Bear' F1 is a bold and beautiful pumpkin variety that produces large, ghost-white fruits perfect for Halloween and seasonal displays. The colour stays true even as the fruit matures, making it a standout in any garden.

Inside, the yellow-orange flesh is ideal for cooking, baking or roasting. These pumpkins can grow up to 25kg and thrive in rich, loamy soil, especially in raised beds or spacious containers. A fantastic choice for gardeners who want both visual impact and culinary value.

How To Grow

Big, bold, and brilliantly satisfying – pumpkins and squash are one of the joys of the summer veg patch. Sow them indoors early and plant out once the soil warms, and you’ll be rewarded with vigorous plants that sprawl across the garden. They thrive in sunshine and rich soil, producing colourful, plump fruits perfect for roasting, soups, pies and even carving come autumn.

Outdoor Sowing
Sow outdoors from May, once the last frosts have passed. Choose a sunny, sheltered spot with fertile, well-drained soil enriched with compost or manure. Create small mounds or planting stations to warm the soil and improve drainage. Sow 2–3 seeds per hole, 2.5cm deep, then thin to the strongest seedling. Allow 100cm between plants and 100cm between rows for space to spread.

Feeding
Before planting, dig in well-rotted manure or compost. Once plants are established and start flowering, feed every 10–14 days with a high-potash fertiliser to support strong fruit development.

Harvesting
Pumpkins and squash are ready when stems turn dry and corky. Cut fruits and leave them in the sun or on a windowsill for 10–14 days to harden skins for storage.

Companion Planting
Good companions include sweetcorn and beans, which provide shade and help deter pests, while pumpkins suppress weeds with their broad leaves.
