Description
- Thorn-free stems
- Ample fruit from one plant
- Uniform berries
Strong-growing raspberry variety that produces lots of fruit in mid to late summer. Even-shaped conical fruit let you harvest easily and Glen Dee’s spine-free stems don’t snag your clothes when picking.
Ideal for growing in beds in an allotment 'Glen Dee' is a floricane type that puts up lots of fruit every year provided your plants enjoy full sun and you grow in rich soil.
If you have always wanted to try growing raspberries but think they are a lot of work, then choose these 4L potted plants. Each pot has 2 plants in which will grow quickly through Spring and into summer. These shoots will branch freely and develop clusters of flowers, which in turn will develop into fruit in the late Summer and Autumn. We will train these shoots up a hooped cane which sits approx. 1.2m above ground. All you need to do is plant it, feed it and enjoy delicious raspberries fresh from your garden.
Floricane
Floricane (summer-fruiting) varieties bear fruit on canes from the year before. In autumn/winter, remove the old, fruited wood and secure the new growths to the support after fruiting.
These are well established and mature plants. We have grown them on, tying in this season growth onto a hooped cane. Being a Floricane variety, they will provide a bumper harvest in the following Summer, so do not cut these canes back until they have fruited.
At planting cut stems down to 5cm (2in) from the base of the soil. In the first year let your raspberry plants produce lots of leafy growth to form strong plants. In the second year you’ll get a reward of raspberries from strong plants.
How you will receive your plants:
Selected by our team of experts and sent from our nursery, you will receive your plant in a pot, ready to plant out.
These plants have already grown this years canes, leave this on the plant and do not cut down, as this years growth will produce next years fruits.
Can’t plant straight away?
Place the pot in a sheltered spot outdoors and water regularly to keep the soil moist.
For best results, add about half a bag of John Innes No2 compost or well-rotted manure to your soil when planting and pruning in late winter.
