  • RHS Award of Garden Merit

Sorbaria sorbifolia 'Sem' is a deciduous shrub with very attractive fern-like foliage, pink-flushed in spring then turning lime-green. Clusters of small creamy flowers appear in summer and the leaves turn vivid red in autumn, giving this useful shrub a very long season of interest. It has a tendency to spread by suckering so is best planted in informal beds where it has space to spread.

Sorbaria sorbifolia 'Sem' holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit.

Plant in full sun or partial shade, in fertile, well drained soil. Water regularly in the first year after planting. Mulch in spring or autumn with compost or well-rotted farmyard manure. To control the spread, remove suckering shoots in winter, tearing them away as close as possible to the point where they join the main plant.
