Sow indoors
April-May: Sow 1cm (1⁄2in) deep in individual module trays of multipurpose compost.
Sow outdoors
May-June: Sow thinly 1cm (1⁄2in) deep in shallow pre-watered drills, in soil that has not been manured in the last 12 months. Keep soil moist at all times. Protect early sowings with cloches or fleece. Thin to 30cm (12in) apart.
Plant out
May: Plant out when the roots fill the modules.
Tips
Swedes do best in well dug soils. Water well and keep weeds at bay.
