  • Brings in important pollinators
  • Well-scented
  • Ideal for selling as cut flowers
  • Enjoy the fragrance and colour all summer long from sweet peas that give carpets of colour.

Create an outdoor carpet of colour and scent from this lovely sweet pea mix and heighten the pleasure you get from your garden. Grow in a row in a vegetable patch too and bring in useful pollinating insects which stick around to pollinate the flowers of peas and beans. The flowers of this mix remain perfectly-formed throughout the summer season and exude a captivating fragrance as you walk nearby.

For carpets of colour sow from February to August. Plant directly into the ground or sow in garden trays. Ensure that your soil is well drained and fertilised before planting and plant at a depth of 8-12mm our handy seeder is great for making this a simple job.

How To Grow

Sweet peas are a beloved UK garden favourite, offering a kaleidoscope of colours and delightful fragrances from May through September. Their climbing habit makes them ideal for trellises, borders, wigwams, or even cascading over shrubs. With a little preparation, sweet peas are easy to grow and make excellent cut flowers for your home.

Indoor Sowing
Sow seeds in pots filled with quality seed compost during October–November or late January–April. To aid germination, soften seeds by placing them on a damp towel or in vermiculite until they swell. Tough seeds can be lightly nicked opposite the ‘eye’ to let moisture in. Place pots in a warm greenhouse, conservatory, or cold frame, keeping soil moist but not waterlogged.

Planting Out
Harden off seedlings before transplanting to a sunny, sheltered spot with well-drained soil enriched with compost or manure. Plant around 10 inches (25cm) apart, securing each to canes or a wigwam. Regular watering during dry periods supports healthy growth and abundant blooms.

Care and Maintenance
Encourage strong, bushy plants by pinching out the top of main shoots when around 4 inches (10cm) tall. Feed with a potassium-rich liquid fertiliser to boost flowers and tie plants gently to supports as they grow. Dead-head faded flowers throughout the season to prolong flowering and maintain plant health.

Did You Know?
Sweet peas are not only beautiful in the garden—they make charming cut flowers that fill your home with fragrance, allowing you to enjoy their blooms long after picking.
