Flowering

Flowering
  • Richly coloured fragrant flower clusters
  • Ideal for beds, borders and container
  • Loved by bees and other pollinators
  • Easy to grow

Few flowers capture the charm of a traditional cottage garden quite like Sweet William 'Heritage Mix'. Producing clusters of richly scented flowers in shades of crimson, pink, white and purple, it creates vibrant displays that brighten the garden throughout summer.

The long-lasting blooms are perfect for cutting, bringing colour and fragrance indoors while fresh flowers continue to develop in the garden. Their nectar-rich flowers are also loved by bees and other pollinating insects, making them a wonderful addition to wildlife-friendly planting schemes.

Easy to grow and rewarding throughout the season, Sweet William thrives in a sunny position with fertile, well-drained soil. Plant in generous groups to create bold drifts of colour and enjoy a classic cottage garden display that's every bit as beautiful in the garden as it is in a vase.

How To Grow

Bare Root Plants:
Before planting, soak the roots in a bucket of cold water for around an hour to rehydrate them after transit.

Choose a sunny or partially shaded position with fertile, well-drained soil. Dig a hole wide enough to spread the roots out naturally and deep enough so the crown (where the roots meet the stems) sits level with the soil surface. Backfill with soil, gently firm around the plant to remove any air pockets, then water thoroughly to help settle the roots.

Keep the soil consistently moist while the plant establishes, especially during dry spells, but avoid leaving the ground waterlogged. Applying a layer of mulch around the plant will help retain moisture and suppress weeds, taking care not to cover the crown.

Guide To Plant Sizes

Bare Root Plants:
Don't be concerned if your bare root plant looks different from a potted plant. Supplied without soil while dormant, bare roots are an economical way to buy many popular garden plants and establish quickly once planted.

Each plant has been field grown before being carefully lifted and packed during the dormant season. Simply soak the roots in water for around an hour before planting into well-prepared soil, and they'll soon begin producing fresh growth as the weather warms.
