Your guide to
Summer Lawn Care

As the warmer weather fast approaches, the nation will turn its attention to outdoor living and a lush green lawn is a key focal point for the summer. The centrepiece of any garden, the lawn is a children’s playground or football pitch, as well as being home to both sun worshippers and BBQ lovers.

For a great looking lawn this summer, we recommend following our simple steps.

How and when to mow your lawn

Cutting the grass plays a huge part in maintenance throughout the summer. Lawns should be mown approximately every seven days. The recommended cutting height on a mower is one to two inches to achieve the perfect sward. By cutting at the right height, the lower grass leaves can then develop into thicker and stronger plants, providing even coverage.

Make sure the mower blades are sharp and not blunt. This can create severe stress on the lawn, and will scalp the grass and leave patchy gaps, creating the perfect environment for weeds to grow and flourish.

With May being the sunniest on record, and the UK receiving very rain, watering is very important and should be carried out 2-3 times a week. Leaving the cuttings on the grass after a mow will also keep moisture in the ground where it’s needed the most.

How to remove weeds and moss

Summer is one of the busiest seasons for lawncare and a vital time to keep on top of moss and weeds. It’s important that these are removed from your lawn as they compete with the healthy grass for vital nutrients and soil moisture, which are vital in the hotter weather to prevent the shallow roots suffer lasting damage.

The ideal way to remove weeds and moss from your lawn is to use a triple action fertiliser such as Aftercut All in One Lawn Feed, Weed and Moss Killer.
