When to Plant Beetroot Seeds

How to Grow Beetroot from Seed

To grow beetroot from seed, prepare a well-drained seedbed in a sunny location, working in plenty of compost or well-rotted manure. Sow the seeds about 2.5cm deep and 10cm apart in rows spaced 30cm apart. Beetroot seeds are actually clusters of seeds, so you may need to thin the seedlings once they have germinated, leaving the strongest plant every 10cm. Keep the soil moist, especially during dry periods, to encourage even growth and prevent the roots from becoming tough. Mulching around the plants can help retain moisture and suppress weeds.
